Today’s Dress! Oscars Edition

28 Feb

I can’t say that the red carpet fashion this year completely blew me away. In fact, I think the disappointments stand out more than the victories. Nicole Kidman has had especially strange red carpet choices this awards season. While the color of Amy Adams gown was gorgeous on her, the shape and jewelry was not flattering at all to me. The colors and beading on Kate Blanchette’s gown was to die for, but that weird framed boob thing kind of canceled that out. Halle Berry looked stunning but I didn’t put her in my top 5 because I feel like that look has been overdone already this awards season – nude, fluffy and sparkly. Here were my 5 favorite looks of the night via US Magazine in no particular order:

I am Loving…

Row boat engagement shoots! They can be preppy or rustic but they are always so romantic. A beautiful scenery plus a cute little boat fit for two is the perfect makings for some fun and amazing photography. Pack a little picnic, a bottle of champagne or your fishing rod – whatever you do its bound to be a good time or at the very least look like one.

Today’s Dress!

25 Feb

To close out the week, today’s dress is from the 5th and last JLM couture wedding dress collection – Tara Keely. I just fell for the tiered tulle skirt with Alencon lace appliques and chapel train. So sweet and feminine!

Swoon Worthy Links…

The blogosphere was rich with eye candy this week. Here are some links to satisfy your sweet tooth!

This tea party engagement shoot on Wedding Chicks is so precious and romantic. Plus the tablescape is to die for!

The guest post by Marry You Me on Brancoprata’s Hotspot has an amazing color palette that just makes me so happy!

Everything about this destination wedding on Style Unveiled has pretty written all over it but I especially love the bridesmaid dresses and the bouquet, which has its own little birdcage veil!

This engagement session on Love and Lavender really captivated me with the vibrant colors and stylish cute couple!

This Northern California wedding on SMP is what fairytale dreams are made of. An unfairly gorgeous couple, a killer dress plus TWO veils and white doves in a birdcage – yes white doves.

I love the idea of these spring bulb DIY favors on Once Wed. So cute!

I am head over heels for this vintage stamp themed invite suite by Oh Joy! It’s clean and simple, but still colorful and whimsical!

This Love and Surf inspiration shoot on Snippet and Ink is really amazing. It’s beachy boho done to perfection!

This real wedding on Love and Lavender is so completely amazing I can’t even describe it. The invitation suite is top-notch design, the ceremony venue is breathtaking and the reception decor is ridiculous!

This Love Bird inspiration shoot on SMP is busting at the seams with amazing details. I’m such a sucker for birds, birdcages and feathers!

The Look: Oscar Worthy Style

25 Feb

In honor of one of style’s biggest nights I wanted to create a wedding day look that is red carpet worthy. As a nod to the famous little statue, I did a little role reversal and went with a gold gown and ivory accessories for the bride and an ivory dress and gold accessories for the bridesmaid. I loved this gold gown that Heidi Klum wore to the Grammy’s and I couldn’t help but think how beautiful a gold gown would be for a bride who was fashion forward enough to mix things up. It’s glamorous and elegant and looks so beautiful paired with an ivory birdcage veil, clutch and shoes. I’ve always been a fan of white or ivory bridemaids dresses so I thought it was the perfect complement to offset the drama of a gold wedding gown. I just see how pretty the whole ensemble would look in pictures. Love!

Today’s Dress!

24 Feb

The fourth JLM Couture collection this week is Lazaro. My top pick is a heavenly trumpet gown – and when I say heavenly I’m not kidding because you will look like you’re floating down the aisle on a cloud (of organza). The gold beaded sash adds another angelic detail. It’s quite the statement dress, but a statement I wouldn’t mind making!

Signature Cocktail: Pink Grapefruit Mojito

24 Feb

This drink just sounds so refreshing to me and I think it would make a great signature cocktail for a spring or summer wedding. The color is pretty, the mint garnish is pretty, and how cute are those little flags?! This recipe is from The Knot Signature Cocktail Finder and I might just make one for myself today and imagine I’m laying on a beach somewhere!

Ingredients:
Handful of mint leaves
1/2 oz. fresh lime juice
1/2 oz. simple syrup*
1 oz. light rum
1/2 oz. fresh pink grapefruit juice
1/2 oz. grapefruit liqueur
Sparkling water

How to Make It:
Muddle mint in lime juice and simple syrup.
Add ice and remaining ingredients except sparkling water and shake briefly.
Pour into a highball glass.
Top with sparkling water.
*Dissolve 2 cups sugar into 1 cup boiling water. Let cool. Refrigerate any leftovers.
