The Look: Tropical Destination Glam

4 May

To go along with today’s destination inspiration board, here is a little fashion/style inspiration. The bride to be wanted a flowy white gown and loved this bouquet of mixed pinks. Borrowing the pale pink shades from the bouquet would be perfect for nails and makeup. I love a chunky pair of bold turquoise earrings to add a pop of color to the look. If it’s a beach ceremony, a pair of turquoise jeweled sandals would be fab and then maybe a pair of heels for dancing the night away on resort the pool deck (at least until you just give up and go barefoot).

I am a big fan of today’s board, mostly because it’s for a real bride. This friend of mine knew what she wanted, but just needed a little help putting it into a cohesive board. She is having a destination in Puerto Rico with the ceremony on the beach and reception on the pool deck of the resort. She loves turquoise and pink and had an image in her head of a pink orchid against a turquoise ocean. She wanted it to be modern with a little bit of glam. She provided some great centerpiece pics – I love the blue plexi glass with the coral and candles! I thought that square chargers and bold graphic print napkins were a great way to keep the table settings modern. And how cute is the message in a bottle seating card idea? I know this wedding is going to be beautiful and I can’t wait to see pics!

Inspiration: Red and White Delight

I know I’ve been bombarding you all with red, but this was a special request so last one for a while I promise! My friend asked me to do a board for her friend that is getting married in December in Salt Lake City, Utah. She knows she wants a white and red wedding and she’s in love with red calla lilies! I thought this red calla centerpiece with the dark red velvet box was gorgeous and perfect. Velvet to me is the luxe fabric of winter. I also love the image of a red cardinal on a snowy tree branch. How cute would little seating cards or table numbers be with an illustrated red cardinal worked into the design? I didn’t want this board to get Christmassy, but I couldn’t resist the peppermint hot chocolate to tie into the red and white. How great would a hot chocolate dessert bar be? Or little jars of hot chocolate mix and crushed peppermint as favors so guests could enjoy it at home on a chilly day! I also love fur for a winter wedding (faux of course). A little white fur jacket makes a great accessory for a bride or her pooch! This is a winter wonderland I would love to take a walk in!

Inspiration: Summer Time & the Living is Easy

This design just makes me happy. I was inspired by my friend Katie who’s always super cheery. She loves summer so a bright but feminine color palette works perfect. I centered it around that beautiful peachy-pink flower in the middle. Adding in yellows, grassy greens and pops of orange. I love the idea of a printed bridesmaid dress. The gray suit and eyelet trimmed gown evoke a laid back southern charm to me. Oh and Margarita’s of course because she loves them so much. Don’t be scared to venture beyond the 2 tone color palette. If they all compliment each other, it can be beautiful!

This is the very first style board I ever created. It was for my own wedding in Cleveland, OH. We got married on July 3rd, 2010 at The Club at Hillbrook, a beautiful old estate in the quaint suburb of Chagrin Falls. The stone mansion and beautiful grounds was the perfect setting for our ceremony and reception. We got married in an outdoor ceremony and had the reception on a covered terrace attached to the house. It was absolutely perfect. Our colors were gray, white and chartreuse green. Lace was a big part of the feminine details. We got married under a lace chuppa which our florist made from a tablecloth I ordered from England off e-bay! I collected white milk glass vases that the florist filled with pretty buds and placed all around the reception. Our centerpieces were white tulips, which I absolutely love. The girls were in light gray chiffon dresses of different style and carried simple bouquets of white stock (a very cost-effective but pretty flower). The boys were in light gray suits and black ties. Everything came together so nicely because I had a cohesive vision for what I wanted to achieve. Stay tuned for pictures from the actual wedding and you can see how a style board can really help bring a vision to life.

This board is for my friend Heather. She is getting married in a gorgeous church and having her reception in a very swanky ballroom. She knew right away that she wanted a black, white and champagne wedding. Her inspiration was the Grace Kelly L’Instant Taittinger print she has hanging in her apartment. I wanted her board to capture the romance and glitz of a night out in old Paris. (say Paris with a French accent). I love the champagne with the blackberries, it’s a culinary interpretation of the the famous ad! Sparkly accents twinkle like the Eiffel Tower lit up at night. A balance of sleek and feminine details create a look that Grace herself would be proud of.

Why is an inspiration board key to creating the wedding of your dreams? Rather than tell you, I can show you. Take a look at this “From Inspiration to Reality” shoot done over at Style Me Pretty by a group of fab Canadian vendors. It was based on my style board “Emerald City After Dark”, which I created for my friend Audra. She wanted a black and white color scheme with a green accent color. To keep the elegance factor of the black and white formal wedding, I went with emerald-green. It’s such a rich regal color. In this shoot, the vendors added pink. I feel it dilutes the impact of the green but it still came out beautiful. Love love love the chandeliers. Goes to show you what an inspiration a style board can be for your vendors. It gives them direction and something to refer back to and make sure they are capturing the essence of what you’re wanting to create.
