The Look: Tropical Destination Glam

4 May

To go along with today’s destination inspiration board, here is a little fashion/style inspiration. The bride to be wanted a flowy white gown and loved this bouquet of mixed pinks. Borrowing the pale pink shades from the bouquet would be perfect for nails and makeup. I love a chunky pair of bold turquoise earrings to add a pop of color to the look. If it’s a beach ceremony, a pair of turquoise jeweled sandals would be fab and then maybe a pair of heels for dancing the night away on resort the pool deck (at least until you just give up and go barefoot).

Inspiration to Reality Shoot on Style Me Pretty: My Modern Clementine

2 May

Good morning and happy Monday! In case you missed it a couple days ago, Style Me Pretty featured an inspiration shoot based on our “My Modern Clementine” inspiration board. Contributors included Bliss Wedding and Event Design and Merriment Design. It has a super cool mod 1960s vibe – so chic I love it! Here are some sneak peak pics but  be sure to check out the whole gallery.

The Look: Headbands

24 Mar

I absolutely love headbands as a hair accessory for brides and even bridesmaids. No matter what style bride you are – preppy, glam, boho – there is a headband for you! You can wear them with your hair up or your down. I’ve featured three looks here: 1) The thin single or double which adds just a little something extra to a hairstyle 2) The embellished headband which is more dramatic with flowers, bows or jewels 3) The hippie style which is worn all the way around and has a definite bohemian vibe. I encouraged my bridesmaids to get creative with their accessories and one of them did an up do with a thick headband embellished with a brooch like cluster of flowers and one of them did an up do with a thin double headband and they both looked amazing.

Some of my favorite resources for headband shopping include:

BHLDN – Anthropologie does not disappoint with a great collection of headbands. – look at both the bridal and the regular collection if you want a fun pop of color!
Twigs & Honey – the mecca of gorgeous hair accessories – you will be blown away by the headband collection.
Etsy – Etsy is an amazing resource for headbands, do search and you’ll be looking for hours! The one featured here is from BE Something New.
Forever 21 – don’t knock it. You can get a headband for $7 that looks the same as a $100 one. Great source for bridesmaids!
Nordstrom – go into the store as well as looking online. Great variety at every price range.

The Look: Burgundy Lips

7 Mar

Burgundy lips is one of my favorite makeup looks right now. It’s an updated version of the classic red lip. There is a right shade for any skin tone. It makes a beautiful wedding day look because it’s just so elegant and romantic. So if you’re thinking of playing up your lips ask your makeup artist what shade would be right for you and give it a try at your trial. I especially love this on a fall or winter bride!

Pony Up!

17 Nov

I’ve always been a big fan of the ponytail. Maybe because I’m not good at styling my hair so it always ends up in one. But pony’s are not just for the gym lady. As you can see by these fab examples, they can be so GLAM! They look especially cute with a birdcage or blusher veil but really would look great with any kind of veil. I also love a ponytail up do on a bridemaids. One of my girls did a side pony that looked amazing!

Finding Your Makeup Look

3 Nov

The makeup! Just another fun part of putting together your wedding day look. My advice is not to skimp on a makeup artist if you can avoid it. A high quality, experienced artist will know how to achieve the look you want, that will stay on all day and look good on camera. There are so many looks, it can get overwhelming trying to decide what you want to do. Think about your best feature and play that up. Is it your eyes? Or maybe your lips? Here are some ideas to get you going:

From left to right, top to bottom:
The Goddess: Brown smokey eye is a little softer than the traditional smokey eye and has a very pretty ethereal feel.
The Blushing Bride: pink on pink, a wedding classic. Soft eyes, pink cheeks and lips.
The Pop: I love a bubblegum pink lip. Adds a bold pop of color for an edgy bride.
The Minimalist: A very natural look can be pretty too if you just don’t feel like yourself with heavy makeup.
The Smolder: Smokey eye and a nude lip, one of my faves. It’s the look I went with for the big day. Can feel like too much, but is just perfect on camera.
The Hollywood Bombshell: Nothing says old school glamour like a simple eye and red lips!
The Angelic Glow: A shimmery pinkish gold on the eyes and cheeks. Great for girls with a darker complexion.
The Peachy Keen: Peach cheeks and lips pair great with a simple or smokey eye.
The Beach Bronzed: Bronzey colors all over for a sun kissed beach babe look.
