Thirsty Thursday: Summer Fruit Sangria

1 Sep

Sorry to bombard you with another food related post, but it’s Thirsty Thursday!!! I’ve really been craving Sangria since I read a recipe feature on all different types of Sangria in Martha Stewart Every Day Food (a must subscribe for impressive, but not too complicated recipes). Sangria is so easy to make but has such a beautiful presentation. There are a million different recipes out there – red wine, white wine, blush wine with endless fruit combination possibilities. Now tell me that a Sangria bar isn’t a great idea for a wedding?! You can have fun with what you serve them in – pitchers, punch bowls, mason jars, whatever you want! Here is a fun Summer-Fruit Sangria from Martha Stewart with plums, apples, oranges and rasberries if you want to give a try.

Inspiration: Summer Brights Bridal Shower

30 Mar

When I came across this bridal shower invitation on Invitation Crush I was instantly drawn to the beautiful color combo of orange, teal and chartreuse. It is such a perfect palette for a summer bridal shower.

Since bright on bright has been one of my favorite recent trends, I was inspired to do a little board to show how these colors can come together and create an amazingly cheery mood!

Inspiration: Sunset on the Shoreline

10 Feb

I love taking color palettes from nature. The pinks and peaches in a beach sunset compliment the same pinks and peaches you find on the inside of seashells making it the perfect palette for a dreamy wedding on the shore. In this board I really love the cake by Maggie Austin – it resembles seashells but in an non-obvious interpretive way. And how cool are those seashell votives from Martha Stewart? A pretty easy DIY project that makes a beautiful detail.

Freshly Picked: Citrus Bouquets!

7 Feb

I just love bouquets that incorporate citrus fruits. It’s so summery and cheery to add some lemons, limes or oranges to your flowers. I love the one in the middle that incorporates rosemary. Bet it smells amazing!

Inspiration: A Berry Charming Picnic

14 Jan

I absolutely love the idea of a picnic wedding. For this board in particular I went with charming strawberry and gingham details – there’s much you could do with it! Mini strawberry shortcakes for dessert, little strawberry jam jars as favors (add a little tag with a table number and it doubles as the seating card). I fell in love with this cotton eyelet gown from JCrew – its stunning but perfect for and outdoor celebration and pairs perfectly with the adorable little strawberry hairpiece!! And is that REAL strawberry bouquet not the most amazing this ever, I mean seriously?! How cute would little strawberry boutonnieres be to match? I am also so in love with the invitation suite from Lasso’d Moon. I may just have to throw a strawberry themed picnic myself!

This board is more about the feel of a wedding rather than a specific theme or color scheme. To me, the cutest weddings are the DIY backyard ones. If you have parents, family or friends with a big back yard, hit them up! If you cut out the cost of a venue it saves so much. I love the serve yourself bar with pre-made cocktails and what about a gourmet finger food buffet with mini burgers and rosemary garlic fries?! Set up fun games on the lawn like croquet, corn hole and bocci ball. Simple homemade centerpieces with fresh flowers from the farmers market in mismatched vases you can collect from second-hand stores over time would be great. And get friends and family to help you with a dessert buffet. Drum up a little friendly competition so they bring their “A” game and offer a prize for the best dessert. String up some cafe lights and some hanging lanterns in the trees – it will look so pretty at dusk. You don’t have to spend a lot to have a beautiful wedding. In fact a wedding like this will probably be more memorable for your guests. Even celebs like Ellen Degeneres & Portia De Rossi and Rebecca Romijn are having backyard weddings these days. I’m hopping on the backyard bandwagon because I love it, so please do invite me 🙂

Inspiration: Summer Time & the Living is Easy

This design just makes me happy. I was inspired by my friend Katie who’s always super cheery. She loves summer so a bright but feminine color palette works perfect. I centered it around that beautiful peachy-pink flower in the middle. Adding in yellows, grassy greens and pops of orange. I love the idea of a printed bridesmaid dress. The gray suit and eyelet trimmed gown evoke a laid back southern charm to me. Oh and Margarita’s of course because she loves them so much. Don’t be scared to venture beyond the 2 tone color palette. If they all compliment each other, it can be beautiful!
